Computer science job pays $72,000 a year in Illinois
Computer science jobs in Illinois are paying a good deal more than other jobs, but that’s not the case for everyone.
According to a report released Monday by the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, the median starting salary for a computer science job in Illinois is $72.71 an hour.
Computer science degrees, however, don’t necessarily equate to better job prospects, according to a survey of about 4,000 Illinois job seekers conducted by the National Association of Colleges and Employers.
The survey also found that more than one in four computer science graduates from Illinois do not find a job in their field.
According a 2014 study by the American Association of University Professors, Illinois computer science programs ranked among the top 10 most competitive among all the universities in the nation.
According the report, computer science is the fastest growing field in the U: more than 4,500 graduates entered the computer science field in 2015, more than the next three top-10 fields combined.
And as more computer science jobs are created, more graduates are finding it difficult to find a good paying job.
Computer Science Salary Statistics According to the report published by the BLS, there were more than 1.4 million people with bachelor’s degrees or higher in computer science in the United States in 2015.
The U.K. had the second-highest number of computer science grads with 4.1 million.
According by the survey, the average starting salary of a computer scientist was $71,890, which is significantly higher than the national average of $58,360.
However, only 2 percent of computer scientists earned more than $100,000 in 2015 and only 6 percent of those earning that amount were computer science professionals.
The median salary for an associate professor was $89,300, which was higher than a bachelor’s degree, according the survey.
And while the median salary of an associate was $73,150, it was only $11,100 lower than a computer professor’s starting salary.
