NC State computer science degree awarded
COLUMBIA, S.C. (Reuters) – NC State University computer science graduate student Evan Meeks was named a 2018 National Science Foundation (NSF) student of the year on Thursday after earning the highest number of bachelor’s degrees awarded in computer science at the nation’s largest university.
The computer science major earned a bachelor’s degree in computer engineering and a master’s degree, a NSF spokeswoman said in a statement.
“His achievement was both surprising and commendable,” said university spokesman David Kelleher.
“His accomplishments will be felt by future generations.”
The announcement came as the NSF announced it would award four more fellowships to students and alumni from the computer science department to promote the career of students.
The four fellowships will be awarded over the next three years to students at NC State and its campuses.
The four fellows will work in their research areas and support faculty and students at the university, the university said in the statement.
